Lego: building the big one - VII

hdri setup test

modelled and rendered in 3ds max 2010.
the individual parts come from the software LeoCAD.

Lego: building the big one - VI

modelling 100% done.
next step is trying to render the 2 million+ polygons with an hdri lighting setup...
then testing out an animated buildup,
probably gonna use a smaller lego project to work out a layout...

Lego: building the big one - V

*work in progress*
about 80% done.
I can start thinking about how I'm gonna animate the build-up...
each image takes about 1,5 - 2 hours to render.

(which is not bad considering this technical information:
1,8 million polygons up to now, mrproxies and the right render settings
took care about "out of memory" crashes in mental ray.
I'm rendering on a 5 year old pc, 32bit system, only 1 Gb ram...)

this is a thumbnail sketch of a new character :

and this is what i modelled in 3ds max, based on the little sketch :

next step is rigging the character so i can put it in any pose i want.
